Hope Powell confirmed as IFCCA keynote speaker

International Football Coaching Conference Australia (IFCCA) is pleased to announce former England manager Hope Powell OBE, CBE as the third keynote speaker for next year’s conference on the Gold Coast in May 2019.

Powell joins Grant Downie OBE, High Performance and Medical Consultant to the City Group, and Thomas Federspiel, who has served as a head scout for top Bundesliga clubs as confirmed keynote speakers for IFCCA.

Powell managed England Women for 15 years between 1998-2013, while also overseeing the whole national team structure from Under 15 to Under 23 level, a coach mentoring scheme and the Football Association’s National Player Development Centre.

As a player, she was capped more than 60 times for England and when she turned her focus to coaching, became the first woman in Europe to be awarded the UEFA Pro Licence.

“I am looking forward to coming to Australia to share my experiences on coaching and leadership from over 30 years in the game,” Powell said.

“The opportunity to help educate and assist the next generation of coaches is very satisfying, I can’t wait.”

Powell was recently in Switzerland for the inaugural FIFA Coach Mentorship Programme, which aims to support female coaches by enabling them to acquire new knowledge, skills and experience.

“We’re delighted to have Hope join us for IFCCA 2019,” Conference Director Ken Stead said.

“Hope will present on the journey from player to international coach to club manager, expanding on her time in the England setup, Great Britain Olympic team and her current role as manager for Brighton and Hove Albion.

“IFCCA’s aim is to deliver exposure and insight to some of the best football education practices and Hope’s presentation will certainly do this.”
